The word "photography" has Greek origins with the meaning "to write with light".

Colm is a photographer, using light to capture and record the world around him, in much the same way as a writer does with his typewriter or computer. Both go through life recording things that happen to or around them.

Winning awards, while not alien to Colm, is a welcome recognition for a job that he loves, but the best award of all is to have his work survive long after he is gone, and to have his creative style appreciated by people that he may never meet.
